Gregory Beaver, lead developer of the Phar extension, is a core PHP contributor as well as lead developer of the PEAR Installer and many PEAR packages. He was elected president of PEAR for 2007-2008, and is actively leading the PEAR2 project, which is designed to take advantage of PHP 5.3's new features. His book, “The PEAR Installer Manifesto”, is available from Packt Publishing. Gregory leads a mysterious double life as cellist of the internationally recognized Chiara String Quartet and lives in Lincoln, Nebraska with his wife and two cats.
